Key Tourist Sights:

The Museum of Edinburgh is the place to go to find out all about the history of the city. It is housed within some very attractive old buildings right in the old town, and you will find details of the history of the city going back to its earliest foundations.

One of the highlights of any trip to Edinburgh is a visit to Edinburgh Castle. This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, and it draws the crowds due in part to its excellent views across the city, although there is plenty to see of interest inside the castle for visitors.

Cramon Island is a great place to escape from the city for a day trip. You will find an ancient Roman fort and an old church tower amongst other things, and it is an excellent way to spend a few hours when you stay in the city.

The Camera Obscura is a great place for all the family. It features the 'Eye in the Sky' which projects an image of the city onto a disc, and there are lots of other visual illusions to enjoy, including the biggest hologram in Europe.

Best Known For:

Edinburgh is known for throwing the best New Year's Eve party in the world, Hogmany. If you can brave the cold then you will be treated to an excellent firework display and a fantastic night's entertainment on the streets of this historic city.

But that is not the only famous celebration in the city. Many festivals are held here throughout the year, including the International Arts Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This is the largest arts festival in the world. It dates back to 1947 when it started off as a small event, but it has since grown into a huge festival where performers arrive to entertain the crowds and it takes place for the month of August each year.

Murrayfield is the home of Scottish Rugby, and if you are a rugby fan then you might want to organise a tour to take a look around the stadium.

Edinburgh is also known for a little Skye Terrier called Greyfriars Bobby. According to legend, the dog stayed beside its owner's grave for 14 years, and both dog and owner are buried in Greyfriars Kirk graveyard.
