Piccadilly Circus is at the centre of London Piccadilly, and you will notice immediately that it is very busy. This large roundabout leads off to a number of large roads including Regents Street, Shaftesbury Avenue and Haymarket, and it is surrounded by excellent shopping and entertainment establishments.

Shaftsbury Avenue has a number of theatres to check out if you want to take in a show during your time here.

Alternatively, head to Fortnum and Mason’s nearby where you will find a whole range of gastronomic treats awaiting.

There are lots of clubs in the region, including Sound in Leicester Square and Paper Nightclub on Regents Street.

If you are in the area with kids then make sure you take a trip to The Trocadero where there are rides and amusements, and to the excellent Hamleys toy shop.

The Royal Academy of Arts is an excellent place to visit for anyone interested in art. It has some of the best exhibitions to be found in the UK, and also runs a famous summer exhibition. In its permanent collection you will be able to admire work by such renowned artists as Gainsborough and Michelangelo.

Piccadilly is known for its huge roundabout at Piccadilly Circus. The name comes from the Latin word for circle. It was constructed in the early 19th century to connect Piccadilly with Regent Street.

When you head here you cannot help but see the huge colourful advertisements, and such advertising has been a feature of the area for about a hundred years, first with incandescent bulbs and later with neon and then LED displays.

Another famous sight here is the Shaftesbury memorial fountain which is known as Eros.

The area is also home to Fortnum and Mason which was established in 1707 and claims to be the inventor of the Scotch Egg.
