Within the park lives the only native red deer herd in Ireland, lots of mountains and a wide range of habitats, and it has been designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

Within the national park you will find one of the most important attractions of the area, the Lakes of Killarney. Also worth a visit is Aghadoe where you will find the remains of a small church and round tower from the 11th century. There are also some excellent views to be had over the lakes from here.
