Middlesborough is also well known for its football club which was formed back in 1876. The team currently plays in the Riverside Stadium, and the club recently spent 11 years in the Premier League before being relegated at the end of the 2008-09 season.

Famous people to come out of Middlesborough include footballer Brian Clough, magician Paul Daniels and comedian and actor Bob Mortimer.
