Samuel Taylor Coleridge is associated with Keswick because he moved here with his family in 1800. He would often walk over to Grasmere to visit his friend William Wordsworth who was based there.

Another famous visitor to the town includes Beatrix Potter. She used to stay at Fawe Park and Lingholm, which are stately homes, and it is thought that she is to have drawn inspiration from the surrounding area for some of her children’s stories.
